The Ink Spots
Original Liner Notes
Some singing groups have it — and some haven’t. Whatever ‘it’ is, is almost impossible to define. But when a singing group has ‘it,’ the results are evident. The group is always in demand for theatre and club engagements; the group is always besieged by radio and TV programmers for guest appearances and spots of their own; the group is constantly being approached to cut records.
As to records, a company is never sure it has a hit on its hands until the financial statement is in which reflects the actual number of records that have moved off the counters into the homes of actual buyers. Well, the sensational INK SPOTS have IT in Capital letters for we have issued not ONE but TWO successful INK SPOT albums AND as a consequence, we have received a mandate from the record buying public for still a third INK SPOT album.
In their first album, recorded at one of the finest studios, the INK SPOTS came up with a blockbuster of old favorites. If you, by chance, didn’t get this album–get it! It’s full of INK SPOT classics such as “My Funny Valentine,” “Up the Lazy River” and “I’ll Be Seeing You.” Their singing of these and other hits panicked them in VEGAS for extended bookings. (This, believe me, is not easy to do.)
The INK SPOTS are one of the few groups which have had a long uninterrupted history of success. This is because they do have a style all their own. No group can quite get the same flavor in a song as the INK SPOTS. It was while they were booked in a club at Las Vegas that our A and R man with his entourage of recording experts recorded the second INK SPOT album. This, too, was loaded with specials—“If I Didn’t Care,” “Sweet Georgia Brown” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
And, finally, because of the success of the first two albums and public demand our A and R man sat right down and made himself a few arrangements. And then the INK SPOTS took over. And, frankly, we think that our third album is greater than the two previous ones. AND this is hard to do too.
