Bill Anderson

The story of Bill Anderson combines the ingredients of talent, dedication and determination.

Songwriter, performer and recording artist, Bill has met with equal success in each medium. Since 1958, when he made his recording debut on Decca Records, Bill Anderson has been consistently represented on the nation’s best selling charts with each new release. And, in almost every instance, the songs were his own compositions.

Further proof of his ability as a songwriter is best illustrated by the many top recording stars who have seen fit to wax his compositions. Such artists as Kitty Wells, Don Gibson, Ray Price, Debbie Reynolds, Jim Reeves, Faron Young and Billy Vaughn have all recorded Bill Anderson songs, and public acceptance attested to their popularity.

Early in his music career, as leader of his own high school band in Georgia, Bill won a talent show by playing one of his own compositions. This set the pace for his subsequent success, which included stints as a disc jockey on radio stations in Athens, Decatur, Commerce and Atlanta, as well as TV appearances with his band, The Avondale Playboys. During this hectic schedule, he also managed to pick up a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Georgia.

In the years that followed, Bill added more honors to his growing list of awards. In 1960 he was voted one of the top three new artists in his field, in addition to being voted one of the five best songwriters in the nation. In 1962 Bill became the top country songwriter of the year, walking off with five BMI awards for his songs.

The year 1963 looms as possibly the biggest and most successful of his remarkable career. As a result of the phenomenal popularity of his recording of Still, which he also wrote, Bill Anderson is in more demand for personal appearances than ever before.

The tunes in this collection consist, naturally, of several compositions written by Bill, including Still, and his versions of some of the most popular songs of the day, such as Little Band Of Gold, Down Came The Rain, From A Jack To A King, It’s Been So Long Darling, The Reverend Mr. Black, and Take These Chains From My Heart.

Although a young man in his early twenties, Bill is a seasoned artist who wears his unique success with humble modesty. The Bill Anderson story has no ending. All that has come to pass till now is rather just the beginning.
